DIY: B6 A4 Rear Window Regulator

This was done on my 2003 Audi A4 1.8T. The symptoms that occurred were when I heard something snap when lowering the rear left side window. It didn't sound good and not wanting to get out information technology in the open position, I went ahead and attempted to shut it. That'due south when I heard more snapping noises and knew that my window regulator was on it's fashion to window regulator sky.

Wanting to salve some money, it was time to . Proceed at your own risk and delight read the entire writeup before attempting this on your own. This writeup can be used as a guide for the rear right side window regulator too.

There are several choices of where to buy OEM parts. I ordered mine through genuinevwaudiparts.

Part Number: 8E0 839 461 C (Current - v/25/09)
Office Number: 8E0 839 461 A (Old - 7/6/02)

Tools:
Flat and Phillips head screwdrivers
Torx Set (T25, T30, T45)
Ratchet Wrench and extensions
Needle olfactory organ pliers
Hair Dryer
Canvas mat or cardboard to sit down on
Stool
Blue threadlock

Time: 2 hours or less. Information technology actually took me a lot longer because I was taking pictures along the way and split information technology over several days. It'southward nice to have a garage and a second vehicle.

Difficulty Calibration (ane-ten): 3

Process:
1. Remove trim. Be careful not to suspension the curved tab (outboard point on door).

two. Remove 4 screws. 3 located behind the trim. ane accessed below the armrest. Apply the Phillips head screwdriver.

three. Adjacent yank the door panel off. It's easiest to start from the lesser and work your way around. In that location are some snap clips that volition most probable break. You lot can supercede them as needed.

4. In that location are 3 connections (wires/cables) still fastened between the door and panel. The kickoff is the door handle linkage (cable with orangish shield). Slide the white piece off and unhook.

And then in that location are 2 harness connections you need to detach. One to the speaker, the second to the window motor. Be sure to recall where they plug into.

Hither's a view of the door.

Here's a view of the inside of the panel.

v. Unplug the three other harnesses. Two to the window motor, one to the speaker. Cut the blackness ziptie.

half-dozen. Remove the speaker. There are three screws property it in identify. (Phillips)

7. Remove window motor. At that place are three screws holding it in place. (T25)

8. Remove entire foam comprehend. It helps to heat upwardly the adhesive using a pilus dryer.

9. Remove plastic cover. There are ii screws holding it in identify. (Phillips)

10. Remove C-colonnade plastic cover and 2 cream pieces.

eleven. Remove the spiral that fastens to the window regulator. (T25)

12. Carefully remove the upper portion of the weather stripping. This is what it should look like.

Re: DIY: B6 A4 Rear Window Regulator

thirteen. The next ready of photos show where all the screws and fasteners are (6 full). You have to remove 2 rubber caps to become to some of them. (T25, T30, and T45)

14. Clasp the three blue clips and so you can push the regulator into the door.

15. Remove the prophylactic flaps and then you can pull out the window assembly. The flaps are a office of the window assembly.

16. Be conscientious when removing the window assembly. This is what it should look similar.

17. Remove the two screws holding the window to the regulator and remove the glass. (T25)

18. Remove this last screw. (T25)

nineteen. Here's the culprit of many broken rear window regulators.

20. Supervene upon the window regulator, reinstall everything in reverse order, and you're washed. Annotation: Employ blueish threadlock on screws with existing threadlock (I counted 2).

Re: DIY: B6 A4 Rear Window Regulator

I but replaced my regulator and needed a couple of clips, so I idea I'd add the function numbers for future reference;

8E0-868-243 : Large black clip for mid department of panel (.78 ea)

8E0-867-276 : Small white clip for top part of panel (ane.12 ea)

Dealers practise not always carry them in stock and then you may want to society in advance.

Thanks for the write-up!

Did information technology break, or 'bind'?
Have not institute the part itself still; seems a mutual role (B5 front, other Audi regulators also seem to take information technology). Volition cheque if I can find a manufacturer.

Simply to chinkle in on the "screw" event: I recently replaced the clips on a Beetle, and found merely 1 screw 'solid', the other 2 with marginal agree. Since the 'legs' of motor skid into pin holes, the torque is actually transferred through the form fit of leg-to-pin-hole. The screws only 'hold' information technology in place. And so with your ii screws 'solid', you should exist good.

How did you strip? IIRC, those screws are like woods/sheetmetal screws, and the week part should be the plastic they go in?

Looking at it again, looks similar it was the top one... pulley wore out. Metal cable under lots of tension on plastic pulley = stupid design. Perhaps not really a typical DYI, every bit I got the pulley from a torn apart telescope, and ground off the terminate of post , drilled and tapped it etc...
